  • Start with a clear statement of purpose — the reader must immediately know why you are writing
  • Use 'ready for discharge into your care' to signal the letter type
  • Group admission details together, then progress, then ongoing needs
  • End with an offer to be contacted for further information

Common Mistakes

  • • Including information the reader already knows
  • • Using note form instead of complete sentences
